Director of Peake Real Estate, Kristen Turner has officially notched up 20 years in the industry – a tremendous achievement that is one to be recognised and celebrated!
We caught up with Kristen to get her take on how the industry has changed over the past two decades.
“2002 was a vastly different place! I was lucky to secure my first real estate job with Cameron Davison at Barry Plant Dandenong as his PA – I was so lucky to have that opportunity. We still catch up and reminisce about the good old days!” Kristen said. “Those were the day’s buyers walked into real estate offices and we would put them in our cars and drive them around looking at properties all day! How things have transformed! Today, the internet takes care of that all-important first inspection. That’s why our skillset needed to morph from glorified taxi-drivers to “marketing specialists”. Another big change is the level of professionalism, and the industry reputation as-a-whole has improved over the past 20 years – we are the gatekeepers of such an important financial and emotional transactions in people’s lives and the professionalism, ethics and legislation around the industry needed to change. Qualifications and training are the focus nowadays, which is a relief to see!” she said. “Highlights of my career so far have been the precious memories that I’ve made with so many colleagues and clients along the way. So many emotions get thrown around in the industry in which we work, and I think I’ve embraced each and every one of those many times over! I cannot be more grateful for the industry I have found myself working in – I arrived from Zimbabwe and was willing to do what it took to make a life for myself and my family – thanks to this industry and the community and team I have around me, that has become a reality.”
